Hi Everyone! Over the years, Tiffany & Co has collaborated with various famous designers to create the most awesome and gorgeous jewelry pieces. Among them are Frank Gehry, Paloma Picasso, Jean Schlumberger, and Elsa Peretti. All of these designers have their own unique look to their items, and this includes that clasps and logos that mark their pieces.
Today, we are going to take a look at some various clasps and logos that can be seen in Elsa Peretti's collection. Although the markings vary in each of the items, all of these are authentic.
Let's take a look at the four versions below:
1) Tiffany & Co / Elsa Peretti (Name in script)
In the picture below, you will see that the clasp is an oval shape and Elsa Peretti is written out in cursive.
Here is an example of a piece that has this logo:

2) Tiffany & Co / Peretti (In Print / Oval Clasp)
The clasp shown below just incorporates the designer's last name (PERETTI), all in capital letters, set in an oval shaped clasp, just like in example # 1.
Here is an example of a piece that has this logo:

3) Tiffany & Co / Peretti (In Print / Bone Clasp)
Here is another version. This necklace has a bone shaped clasp with the designer's last name printed on on side.
Here is an example of a piece that has this logo:

4) Tiffany & Co / Peretti (In Print / Single Bone Clasp)
This piece also has a bone shaped clasp (like in #3), except it is only one bone clasp. Again, the designer name is printed on one side - only the last name in this case.
Here is an example of a piece that has this logo:

One thing I wanted to note is that the clasps/logos shown above are the most commonly seen clasp/logo combinations used in Peretti pieces. However, this is by no means all of it. In fact, for some items that have been produced for many years, the same piece can have different clasps! A very good example of this is the Elsa Peretti Alphabet necklace collection - I have seen many of the different clasp combinations on these various pieces!
The two reasons why the same piece might have a different looking clasp shape/logo are:
a) Change in manufacturer / Multiple manufacturers
As there are numerous Tiffany & Co pieces produced over time, it is only natural that the company has multiple vendors that create their pieces, If a piece is created time and time again, there may be cases where there is more than one company that makes the same piece. As a result, the look might just be slightly different. The quality of the piece should be the same, but the way the logo is stamped may change slightly.
b) Time of Production
The date / year that a piece was manufactured also plays a role in the way the clasps look. As a general rule, many of the Peretti pieces that have the Bone Clasp are older pieces. I see these type of clasps a lot in many of the vintage Peretti pieces. The Oval clasps can usually be found in more current pieces. Items with the Oval clasp / PERETTI (printed) combination tend to be slightly older than the Oval Clasp / Elsa Peretti (Script) combination pieces. If you visit a Tiffany store today and take a look at some of the Peretti jewelry, I think you will find that many (if not all) of them will bear the script Elsa Peretti logo.
As mentioned, all the pieces featured here are authentic. This article is also by no means a comprehensive list of Peretti clasps. It meant to hopefully provide you with more detail on how you can authenticate a Tiffany & Co piece.
As always, the details pointed out in this article are just some of the indications that can help you determine whether a piece is a real or fake Tiffany & Co item. It does take a lot of time and research to be able to distinguish the difference, but hopefully, this article helps in your search for another authentic and wonderful Tiffany & Co pieces! Have a wonderful day!
